We all know that acne is a common skin problem, especially starting adolescent years. The main cause of these one during that time is the sudden hormonal change along with their personal hygiene. However, in women’s case, hormonal acne could persist until the menopausal stage. The reason behind this is none other than their hormonal changes, too.
Treating acne during the teenage years can be done by means of using astringents, facial cleansers and various acne washes. However, this is an entirely different case when it comes to adults and middle-aged women due to the fact that their skin is way deeper.
Hormonal acne can be treated in various ways such as:
- Topical Hormonal Acne Treatments – This kind of treatment can be used by women in order to treat mild and moderate acne. Topical retinoids such as Differin and Retin-A can also help lessen blackheads and comedones. Azelaic Acid, on the other hand, can also be used to treat post-inflammatory hyperpigmentations along with both inflamed and non-inflamed pimples.
- Oral Hormonal Care Medications – This treatment is usually taken along with topical treatments for moderate to severe and nodular acne. However, there is an urgent need for a dermatologist’s prescription before you take one of those. Usual forms of Hormonal Medications include oral contraceptives or birth control pills, which control various hormonal fluctuations and Spironolactone, a hormonal regulator that is usually prescribed for women’s use. In worst cases, however, Isotretinoin can be taken if the acne still persists after all those treatments.
