Mercedes-Benz once again showed its prowess in bringing in revolutionary ideas to spoil the urbane folks. This time, they are bringing in Vision Tokyo, the “chill-out zone in the midst of the megacity traffic mayhem.” And chill-out zone it is for sporting arc-shaped couch where five comrades can spend their time with, relaxing.
Of course, Vision Tokyo is yet a concept so there’s no tangible production going on. Everything about it exhibits the dream car of the indulgent crowd—from the exclusive confines of the luxurious interior, to futuristic exterior shell and the fuel cell drivetrain with theoretical range of 600 miles. Dimensions of 189.1 x 82.7 x 63.0 inches with 26-inch wheels scream something like “huge” or “mammoth” while its ethereal silver body paint, LED accents and non-segmented windows do help in reducing its intimidating presence at all.
Apparently this is one car not meant for the speedsters to indulge. Considering the seating lay-out, one can immediately conclude that Vision Tokyo focuses on Autonomous mode. The lounge-style lay-out brings out the fun of getting together with the benefit of playing various electronic gadgets. However, if somebody wants to take control, a jump seat and a steering wheel can be summoned straightaway.
Vision Tokyo may not be scheduled to materialize in years to come. For all we know, it may be decades before this car comes into production. We’re not dismissing anything simply because when it comes to technology, we cannot just scratch away even the littlest of probabilities.
