Contact lenses are now becoming very popular nowadays due to the fact that unlike eyeglasses, these things can now become a part of its user’s fashion statement without receiving harsh criticisms. Not only contact lenses are available in various colors; it can also feature various designs such as cat’s eyes, zombie eyes or even eyes like that of a snake’s. Needless to say, this can also add more fun to your Halloween costumes. However, since contact lenses are put directly in cornea, putting one also posts various risks. This is usually the case when it comes to improperly-washed contact lenses that are put in our eyes.

- Bacterial Infections – If your contact lenses are not cleaned properly, kinds of bacteria such as Pseudmonas aerugenosa and Staphylococcus Aureus can infect your eyes. These kinds of bacteria propagate and multiply not only in contact lenses but also in water and lens solutions.
- Parasitic Infections – Acanthamoeba keratitis (AK), a very rare kind of parasite can infect your eyes, therefore leading to temporary loss of vision or, in the worst case, blindness. Washing contact lenses in water or diluting the lens solution will cause this one to infect your eyes, once the lenses are worn.
- Fungal Infections – Fungal infections such as fungal keratitis, fusarium keratitis, Candida and Aspergillus can infect your eye due to increased usage of contact lenses. Studies show that even contact lens solutions can also be used by these as their breeding grounds.
