For the past few years, there are many factors that greatly affect our internet connectivity. From your Telecommunications Company’s Incompetence up to your hardware and internet connection settings, sum them all up and you get what we call a ‘turtle net’ connection. However, if you are receiving a rather cramped-up internet service from your ISPs (Internet Service Providers), that’s entirely a different matter.
There’s no real way, though, to know whether the fault comes with your computer alone or by the ISPs itself. But still, there’s a need that you have to constantly monitor your internet connection. You don’t need to be a computer geek or to download additional equipment in order to do that. If you’re using a Windows computer, you can use the old-fashioned CMD screen. From there, you can monitor your internet connection the easy way. By using the PING command, you can monitor whether your computer is online or offline.
You can now start pinging your internet connection by going to Start Menu > Run then typing “ping –t 8.8.8.8” (without the quotes) before pressing the Enter key. The additional –t means that the ping command will go on forever, unless you decide to stop it by pressing Ctrl + C. The 8.8.8.8 is Google’s Domain Name Server (DNS) Address.
If you have done the typing job correctly, you will see the “pinging 8.8.8.8 with 32 bytes of data:” then “reply from 8.8.8.8…” message. Unless the message starts saying “Request Timed Out”, it means that you still have an internet connection.
