With the influx and free demonstration of adult communication in the internet, how are parents supposed to cope up in securing their child from such objectionable materials? Good thing that a parent can customize settings to limit (or even restrict) the flow of information. The answer: PASSWORD SETTING. Now, there are different operating systems that we can use and this means that there are different steps or ways in how to set the password, right?
We are going to tackle about Windows 7 OS and the Internet Explorer web browser in this article.
Password Setting for Internet Explorer
- Given that you have given your child his own account in your computer, log in from there.
- Open the Internet Explorer and look for the Tools menu. Click on it and customize setting in “Internet Options.”
- Select Content tab and click on the “Enable” button under the Content Advisor. After clicking on it, the Content Advisor box opens.
- Choose a category under the selection. Next, select the level of rating for the selection category you’ve chosen to use by simply dragging the slider to your desired level. After adjusting, click on the “Apply” button.
- Proceed to the General tab and check the box beside “Supervisor can type a password…” option.
- Click on the “Create password” option and enter desired password. Confirm the password you’re going to use by simply typing the same password you typed earlier, and finally click OK.
Restricting Your Child from Internet Access in Windows 7
- Log in to your computer under your Administrator account.
- Click on the Start Menu and look for the Control Panel, then click on it. Options will appear and look for “Set up parental controls for any user” option which is found in the User Accounts under Family Safety.
- From there, you can manipulate the account user name of your kid and his (or her) Internet access. Just ensure that your kid has already user name. In case that there isn’t, you can always make account using “Create a User Account” link.
- Choose “On, enforce current settings”>> “Block specific programs”>> “….can only use the programs I allow.”
- Decide on the programs you want your kid to utilize or use but do not include the web browsers (especially Internet Explorer) on the list.
