Nokia is a rubber manufacturing company started in 1885. With lot of ups and down it finally settled in telecommunication and mobile manufacturing industry. Nokia even had the reputation of producing the personal computers known as MikroMikko, MikroMikko1 in early 80’s of the twentieth century.
Nokia is also known for its high quality CRT and TF LCD displays. This business was brought by ViewSonic in 2000. In 1992 (after the tragic suicide of its CEO in 1988), the company gave up all its businesses and concentrated only on telecommunications. Nokia is the key contributor to manufacture and sell the GSM standard mobiles. The GSM standard was adopted by EU in 1987. After focusing on GSM technologies, Nokia became the biggest mobile manufacturer in 1998. It retained its 1st position for 14 consecutive years i.e. till 2012, the time when Android and Apple wave swept across the world.
