Audi R8 e-tron 2016 – Specifications, Price and Release

BMW had their i3 electric model with auto parking assist (or RVPA). Google is currently in the process of finalizing its own self-driving car design.  And Audi… had just unveiled their 2016 R8 e-tron model with the capability of auto-piloting itself.  However, we must warn you that no matter tempting this car is, it’s not yet for sale.  Sorry, folks but the German automaker merely gave us a tease and glimpse of what is yet to come.

Interior and Exterior

So the modern beast sounds futuristic enough, does this mean that we must expect an exterior exposing such promise?  While the packaging looks modern enough, the material cladding of the car isn’t titanium. However, the carbon fiber reinforced polymer makes sure that the car doesn’t bear excessively unnecessary weights but could brace enough an impact should it be inevitable.  The electric blue paintwork gives that revolutionary glamor and the aero-focused wheels can give you a glimpse of the zooming white-hot blaze.

Peering inside, the driver seat will surely awe you with its touch of exclusivity.  You can see a steering wheel complete with function buttons and the beaming Audi logo reminding its driver to be proud of driving a certified state-of-the-art automobile.

Engine and Transmission

You know about R8 e-tron’s Pilot Driving technology and it’s truly remarkable.  However, the 2 electric engines of R8 are modest enough to summon 456hp from its 170kW power output. It can then race from 0-100 km/h (equivalent of 0-62.1 mph) in barely 4 seconds.  Top speed recorded is 210km/h or 250km/h depending on the tires.  Moreover, it takes 2 hours less in charging the engines of our favorite R8 and this is due to Audi’s very own Combined Charging System (CCS).

Expect $117,150 to$201,150 price tag for R8 e-tron.  Gauging the price and specifications, it can compete with the likes of Porsche 911, Mercedes AMG GT/ GT S and Jaguar F-Type R.
