The reason behind the removal is because of the space needed for more useful features.

When is it going to become Available?
Because of the ‘official’ release, the company had revealed that the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus is going to become available for pre-orders on September 9. However, it is going to become available for store purchase next week, September 16. AirPods, on the other hand, will not be available until October. It is said that both iPhones will have a minimum of 32GB internal storage capacity, confirming that the 16GB variant is also gone for good. However, it is very interesting to know that both iPhones will have the usual price range of previous iPhones, the iPhone7 starting at $649 while the iPhone 7 Plus will start at $769 price tag.
